Our Favorite Mulled Wine Recipe

Our Favorite Mulled Wine Recipe

Are you in for some fun sightseeing? If the answer is yes, you have to try the Budapest beer bike experience. The winter is a special time of the year when people need to warm up and get in touch with the holiday spirit. A crowd favorite treat for the season is mulled wine. Here’s our recipe to make the best heart-warmer!

Contrary to popular belief, mulled wine is a quality drink that needs quality ingredients. You cannot make a low quality wine into a delicious cocktail of spices and aromas, so the first thing you have to do is pick the right vintage. For red wine, look for the ones that have a strong texture like Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon. They make the best ingredients. Some people like to try white wine, they should go for a Muscat or a Chardonnay.

The spices make the most of the drink, so this is where you have to be careful. Again, buy quality products from a local vendor and try to buy whole pieces not minced ones, they have stronger aromas. Here’s a list of things you need:

  • Cinnamon: the most basic ingredient of all. A small cane will suffice for a bottle.

  • Clove: another aromatic Oriental spice. Get around 6-7 pieces, as many as you can fit into a teaspoon.

  • Ginger: the spice that gives strength. A typical winter delight, you can use ground ginger (1 tablespoon) or a few slices of the fresh root.

  • Sugar: you want a sweet taste for the wine, try it with brown sugar this time! You will need 3 tablespoons.

  • Orange: give a fruity touch to it. Use an average one, slice it into pieces.

All you need to do is set the stove to medium and make sure the wine won’t boil, just simmer for around 15 minutes. Add the ingredients, all at the same time, and stir it a few times to make the sugar disappear. You can change the quantities or try adding special spices, like star anise to make your own recipe!

The cold of winter gets much more tolerable with a nice mulled wine. Anyhow, it will help you to last until summer, when you can hop on beer bike in Budapest and take a unique sightseeing trip! Check out our website to learn more!
